Ole Miss Removes State Flag
The University of Mississippi removed the state flag on the Oxford campus today because of the controversy over the flag which contains the Confederate battle emblem.
The move comes less than one week after the university senate voted to call for the removal of the flag. University of Mississippi Interim-Chancellor Morris Stocks ordered the flag to be taken down and sent to the university’s archives.
Several Mississippi cities and counties have stopped flying the flag after the Charleston shootings.
Stocks said the Ole Miss community came to the realization that the Confederate battle flag does not represent the university’s core values.
