Shooting at Exxon Gas Station in Pascagoula

A Moss Point man is currently being treated for gunshot wounds at Singing River Hospital after an overnight shooting at a Pascagoula gas station. The suspected shooter, 21-year-old Taurus Richardson, is in custody after turning himself in before 2 o’clock this afternoon. News 25’s Laurene Callander was on the scene early this morning and has reaction from locals.
It was a peaceful Wednesday morning at the Pascagoula Exxon station. It was a much different scene hours earlier after a shooting broke out inside the Chicot Road store just before midnight, spilling into the parking lot and ultimately sending a Moss Point man to the hospital with gunshot wounds. This was a rattling scenario for those who frequent this location. Pascagoula resident Janice Alfred said, “All the time I’m here getting gas. I never thought anything like that would happen, you know, right here in the neighborhood.”
They believe21-year-old Taurus Richardson is the one who shot the victim, 22-year Spencer Garrett, multiple times before fleeing in a gold colored Nissan Maxima.
Local residents are fed up with the crimes and shootings in their area. “This killing and shooting and guns, it just has to stop,” said Alfred.
Some residents who are regulars at the gas station heard about the shooting and after physically seeing the bullet hole in the doorway say they don’t feel safe there anymore. Moss Point resident Dorine Bowman said, “I’m too scared to come back. I’m really scared and when I heard there was a shooting, I’m shaking already. I am really terrified because everywhere you go, there’s a shooting.” Pascagoula resident Amy Boyd said, “It makes me feel not safe. I definitely won’t be coming here at night now. It kind of bothers me to hear that.”
Pascagoula police say that Richardson walked into the police department with his lawyer. He is charged with attempted murder.
