Public Service Commission Meeting in Jackson
Lynn Posey and his fellow Public Service Commissioners say Posey can keep voting on rate increases for Mississippi Power Company’s Kemper power plant. The commission voted 3-0 today to deny a motion by Thomas Blanton, who’s running for the commission’s southern district seat as a Democrat, to disqualify Posey.
Blanton argued that Posey shouldn’t be able to vote because in 2013 he took campaign contributions from 10 companies that Mississippi Power has paid $86 million to work on the $6.3 billion Kemper plant.
The commission, in its ruling, says Blanton is misinterpreting state law that bans PSC candidates from taking contributions from regulated utilities.
