Zeta Phi Beta hosting prayer vigil to honor youth

Lambda Xi Zeta chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated will host a public prayer vigil and balloon release this Sunday to honor those youth who have lost their lives to violence.

Guests will hear from local community leaders as well as families who’ve been affected.

The event is to not only pray and remember those youth who have lost their lives to violence and other negative influences, but also to lift their families up as they continue to navigate life without their loved ones.

Lamba Xi Zeta Chapter Community Outreach Sichana Jean said, “There are so many things that are coming against them these days. They have so many pressures to engage in a lot of negative activity. We just want to reaffirm our commitment to our youth by making sure they know that we are there for them, that there are concerned people, there are authority figures that want nothing but the best for them. So, we believe that it starts with a positive support.”

The event is open to anyone. It’s happening this Sunday at 3 p.m. at West Side Park in Gulfport.
