Update on victims in Gulfport apartment fire

New details released on the condition of three of the victims in yesterday’s apartment fire.

The mother and child who were in critical condition are showing signs of improvement. One point of clarification, we’ve been told it was the four-year-old child who was airlifted to New Orleans in critical condition, not the two-year-old as previously reported.

Gulfport officials say that a four-year-old is still in critical condition, but improving.

Same goes for the mother, who is at Memorial Hospital. The two-year-old child who was sent to a local hospital is in stable condition at this hour.

Gulfport fire fighters are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the fire. It is believed to have originated in the kitchen of the apartment.

Additionally, Gulfport fire officials say the smoke detectors in the apartment were not in working order at the time of the fire.
