Back Bay Mission holds open forum in Biloxi to discuss homelessness

Back Bay Mission had their second annual open forum at Ground Zero Blues Club in Biloxi.

The forum was open for anyone in the community who wanted to come and raise concerns about homelessness.

Back Bay Mission, the chief of police, and a representative from Open Doors were asked questions about current homeless statistics and anything related to the topic.

The main concern at the forum is why are there no shelters available on the Coast. Back Bay Mission hopes to find some solution in 2023 for transitional housing. Director of Client Services Sarah Smith said, “I feel very positive about 2023 and that the community is ready. I feel an overwhelming response from the community I never felt before in the six years I’ve been here saying they are ready for us to bring something like this to Harrison County.”

Their next forum will be in April. If you would like to know more on how you can help, call Back Bay Mission at 228-432-0301.
