Mississippi Power offers cost-saving energy tips

Even though the weather is getting colder, you can still cut back on your energy costs.

As temps cool down, electric bills can go up as people try to keep warm in the colder weather, but there are a few things you can do to drive down your energy costs this time of year.

Here are a few tips according to Mississippi Power:

  • Bundle up and set your thermostat at 68 degrees
  • On sunny days, if you have south-facing windows open the curtains to let the sun and warmth in
  • Close the curtains at night to keep out drafts
  • Use LED lights and if you have an older home make sure to caulk up and seal any cracks or crevices

If you’re having trouble paying your energy bill, you can get assistance through Mississippi Power’s Project Share program. Kaila Moran Griffith with Mississippi Power said, “This is really close, near and dear to my heart, because employees like me can actually contribute to Project Share and donate to it, as well as our foundation. It’s run through Catholic Charities, and it provides financial assistance to people in need. If you need financial assistance on your bill, you can go to mississippipower.com to learn more about Project Share or contact Catholic Charities directly, and that is for people anywhere in our service territory.”

The number to get in touch with Catholic Charities if you or someone you know needs help this holiday season is 855-847-0555.
