Pascagoula PD Closes Case of 5 Year Old Injured on Playground

The Pascagoula Police Department has completed its investigation of the case of a five year old girl who suffered dramatic injuries on the school playground. Police say they’ve found no criminal activity occurred and have now closed the investigation.

Police determined the child was injured in a playground accident and that no criminal activity occurred. They have now closed the investigation. Pictures of five year old, AvaLynn Harris were posted on Facebook last week by her mother, Lacey Harris. Police and Pascagoula School District officials each conducted investigations and confirmed the injuries were sustained at school.

Details are still limited, but police say AvaLynn fell on a playground slide. They believe no other children were involved and do not believe it was abuse. The investigation stems from reports last week that a school yard incident left a kindergartner with injures.

Tuesday, school officials confirmed that an incident did occur, but that it was an accident involving playground equipment and not a physical altercation, contradicting earlier Facebook reports and alleged eyewitness accounts.
