D’Iberville ready for playoff rematch vs. Petal
Sandwiched around Gulfport’s three year run of dominance in region 4 class 6a are two district crowns that belong to D’Iberville.
The program’s reward for climbing all the way back to the top of the standings is a date with history.
In less than 24 hours, the Warriors will be kicking off their 2020 playoff run with a repeat first round matchup from 2016.
One seed D’Iberville is hosting four seed Petal who doesn’t really feel like a four seed, less than a year removed from running the table in the ultra-competitive region 3.
That being said, the Warriors from four years ago didn’t have Minnesota commit Justin Walley.
Perks of putting up the first perfect regular season in the history of region 4 which all of a sudden doesn’t mean very much if the Warriors don’t stay perfect. Walley said, “Going 9-0 is all good, but if you don’t win a playoff game, then to us it really doesn’t mean anything. Most important thing to us right now is winning in the first round of the playoffs.”
Head Coach Larry Dolan said, “History tells us that we can’t take it too lightly. That region up there has done very well against us, so we want to win some games. We want our region to represent and I think our region has gotten better this year. So, I fully expect us to compete and all the teams in our region to compete. So, it’s just a goal. It’s been a goal to win a playoff game for these guys, and it still is.”
D’Iberville and Petal will kick things off at 7 p.m. tomorrow.
