Protest of Confederate statue in Harrison County to take place Thursday
On September 3rd, a protest to remove the Confederate statue that is placed outside of the Harrison County Courthouse.
The dismantling of the statue is relevant to citizens since change is being inflicted in the state of Mississippi with the new state flag coming soon.
Supervisors in counties such as Washington and Leflore have already voted to move Confederate statues away from courthouses.
The coalition is organizing this protest to spread awareness for everyone in the Harrison County community and for the board of supervisors to take action on the issue. ‘Extend a Hand, Help a Friend’ CEO Jeffrey Hulum III said, “It is time that the citizens and the elected officials come together as one and say what is the betterment for all people of Mississippi, all people in Harrison County, not just a select few.”
Hulum and his brother, Shaheed Ali, will be leading this event in front of the statue at 5:45 p.m. this Thursday.
