New endangered green sea turtle at Mississippi Aquarium
The Mississippi Aquarium is welcoming a new friend to their facility, an endangered green sea turtle by the name of Banner.
Banner came from the Florida Aquarium where he was rehabilitated for about four years. His healing process started when he was found in Brevard County, Florida after being seriously injured due to a boat strike.
After he was nursed back to health by the Florida Aquarium’s team, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission deemed that he was non-releasable back into the wild.
Banner is now home at the brand new Mississippi Aquarium where they are focusing on protecting this species. Director of Research for Mississippi Aquarium Holley Muraco said, “The most important reason why we have Banner is so that people will, first of all, fall in love with sea turtles. Mississippi Sound is critical habitat for endangered sea turtles, and by coming here, falling in love with Banner, then they will understand why it is so important to protect them.”
The Mississippi Aquarium is set to open on August 29th and general admission is $29.95 while children’s admission is $24.95.
