Governor Tate Reeves not impressed with today’s COVID numbers
Governor Tate Reeves says today’s numbers do not fit the downward trend in COVID-19 cases that we’ve seen in recent weeks.
Governor Reeves addressed the state today saying numbers have been good, however, today they’re not so good.
He wants Mississippians to continue to wear their masks and avoid large gatherings, specifically highlighting college students attending parties.
State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs says when it comes to schools, the week of August 10th through the 14th, 84 teachers and 132 students tested positive for COVID-19. “If we’re talking about colleges, we’re extremely concerned about colleges. We’ve certainly seen across the country, a lot of situations where some actually had to close colleges right after they opened it. Certainly, that’s not something that we want to see. We are investigating two outbreaks, one at Ole Miss and one at Mississippi University for Women. The one at the W has some trace back to the Cotton District in Starkville, not a big surprise, right? We know that people socialize and get in groups, not wearing masks. They’re absolutely going to spread coronavirus. So, we will continue to investigate more so expect more information as we go forward on that front.”
Dr. Dobbs said teacher testing is still available on their website where you can sign up for free testing.
