Loaves and Fishes hold inaugural “Hustle for the Hungry” color run over weekend
BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV) — If you saw some colorful runners and walkers on your drive along Highway 90 in Biloxi on Saturday morning, then you witnessed the first ever “Hustle for Hungry” color run.
Loaves and Fishes hosted its inaugural color run fundraiser this past weekend.
The run started at the Loaves and Fishes building and went all the way down to the Golden Nugget Casino and back.
Nearly 50 runners participated and were doused with colorful powder along the 5K course.
Following the run, participants and family members enjoyed an after-party with food, drinks, and music by Gram Rae.
Leslie Ramon, Loaves and Fishes Executive Director says, “We had initially planned it for May. We had to push it back of course. As soon as everything started opening, we set the date for August. We had to go through the Mayor to make sure everything was okay. Social distancing… masks are going to be given out when they get back if they’re staying for the after-party. But it was also kind of a relief. Everybody’s been stuck inside. Let’s come out and spend a day outside and have fun.”
“We are a nonprofit and we– the only funding we have is from volunteers and donors. We have a staff of three. When it comes to paperwork… a staff of one. So, I mean it’s everything that we do depends on the support of the community.”
