Drive-thru food bank helps local families in need

A community food drive in Gulfport took place this morning to support local residents in need due to the trying times of COVID-19.

Frederick Magee, Jr, the president of the non-profit, All About Helping Kids Incorporation, partnered with Nicks Law Firm and HNS Industrial Commercial Supplies and Services to put on the food drive.

Magee and his crew have served in a number of towns in Mississippi for the past six weeks, but said it was their first time coming to serve the people of the coast.

With approximately fourteen hundred pounds of produce, two thousand gallons of milk donated by Borden Dairy, and chicken purchased from Sanderson Farms ,the food drive was successfully lined with vehicles out to Highway 49.

“We serve our community by providing a food drive to the community so we’re giving out vegetable boxes,” Shantrell Nicks of Nicks Law Firm says. “We have milk and we also purchased chicken from Sanderson Farms to handout to the community to help them during this pandemic.”

Today was the last day of the food drive, but the groups are looking forward to bringing more trucks back to the area.
