Push for Light at Dangerous D’iberville Intersection
School has been in session for about a week and extra police have been stationed around the dangerous intersection at Big John Road and Highway 67, the spot of multiple accidents including one that claimed the lives of two teenagers in the spring.
That extra patrol won’t be there forever and concerned parents and local officials would still like to see a stoplight installed there. Members of the coastal delegation tried to help get a stoplight installed at the intersection during the last legislative session, but that did not work out.
State Senator Sean Tindell tells News 25, next session they will continue to work with MDOT to get that accomplished. “What we tried to do last year is try to allocate funds for a specific project to put in a stoplight during the legislative process that ultimately was removed. But, we’ll keep trying to do it through that and other measures. Ultimately, MDOT is going to have to step up to the plate and get involved and do what we’re asking them to do, but we’re going to keep working toward that.”
The 2016 legislative session will begin in January.
