Small Chlorine Leak in Woolmarket

Authorities say everything is back to normal after a small chlorine spill caused panic in a rural area of Woolmarket this afternoon.
Harrison County’s chlorine tanks are stored in a fenced-in, secluded area off Joe Husley Road. The valve on one of those tanks did not close all the way, causing chlorine to drip out. As a precautionary measure, the Harrison County Utility Authority called the Harrison County Fire Department and the Biloxi Fire Department hazmat team to take care of it. Firefighters were able to seal it off and stop the leak.
Biloxi Battalion Chief Tony McCormack said, “It was an isolated area, out in a rural area like this, so there wasn’t really anyone in danger or anything. It was a small leak and they were able to contain it real quickly.”
The Harrison County Utility Authority has called their tank supplier and the faulty tank should be replaced shortly.
