Riverside Park in D’Iberville adding new paddling nature trail
In the City of D’Iberville, residents and visitors can now enjoy a beautiful new pavilion and kayak launch at Riverside Park.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held this morning for the project that’s been in the works since 2015. Thanks to the help of $330,000 in Tideland Funds, the Department of Marine Resources, and several others, the community now has handicapped kayak and boat access to the Tchoutacabouffa River, miles of walking trails, picnic benches, and a safer area for recreational activity. D’Iberville City Manager Clay Jones said, “There’s not too many places where it’s accessible for everyone. When I was a young child, I used to come out here, but it just wasn’t accessible. It was really muddy and it really wasn’t safe. So, we wanted to make a safe place for everyone to enjoy.”
What’s even better is the new addition lowers flood insurance rates for city residents as the more green space there is, the higher their rating, and less money out of residents’ pockets.
