Gyms, salons, barbershops allowed to reopen in Mississippi with restrictions
Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves says barbershops, salons and gyms can start reopening Monday but must take steps to slow the spread of the new coronavirus. Reeves made the announcement Friday.
Reeves also extended his “safer at home” order by two more weeks, until May 25.
Under the executive order, all salons and barbershops must be deep cleaned before opening. Chairs must be six feet apart, employees and customers must wear face masks and need to be screened for COVID-19 symptoms.
Gyms and other indoor athletic studios can operate at 30% capacity, equipment must be six feet apart, employees must wear face masks and they have to close by 10 p.m.
Legislators have started discussing how Mississippi might spend some of the coronavirus relief money it is receiving from the federal government. They say some could be used to help small businesses hurt by the pandemic.
