Blood Centers collecting plasma from COVID-19 survivors

One treatment for COVID-19 that shows early promise is the use of convalescent plasma transfusions.

That’s the blood product that comes from people who have recovered from coronavirus and are currently healthy.

Now, America’s Blood Centers, which account for 60 percent of the U.S. blood supply, are joining the fight.

They have teamed up with the FDA and Department of Health and Human Services to advance this potential treatment.

Though it is not proven yet, researchers believe it is possible that convalescent plasma could provide antibodies to fight the virus.

If you have recovered from a confirmed case of COVID-19 and would like to help contact your local Blood Center to see if you are eligible. To find a Blood Center near you go to covidplasma.org.
