Local reactions to Governor Reeves’ new ‘safer-at-home’ order
Local leaders are reacting to Governor Tate Reeves’ safer-at-home order issued on Friday.
Mayor Mario King of Moss Point has been critical of the state government’s response to COVID-19 but says the governor’s new order is a step in the right direction.
While Moss Point’s stay-at-home order still remains in effect, Mayor King says the order and fact sheet provided by the governor gives cities guidelines to move forward.
Mayor King still urges city residents to exercise caution as the coronavirus threat continues. “So, we need to let people know that we still have a long way to go when it comes down to the science and that there’s still a lot of confusion there when it comes to the science and research. So, I want people to still stay at home and practice safe measures and practices at this time.”
King also revealed that most of the city’s population has complied with safety measures put in place so far.
