Saints select Michigan Center Cesar Ruiz in the 2020 NFL Draft
New Orleans Saints Head Coach Sean Payton doesn’t ever seem to sit still on draft day.
Ever since his arrival in the Big Easy back in 2006 he’s pulled the trigger on at least one draft day trade every year except for 2012.
And of those 20 draft day trades, 17 of them involved the team giving up extra assets for a higher pick.
And of those 17 draft day trades, four of them happened in the first round.
All that being said, the black and gold didn’t have to trade up to get their guy, taking Cesar Ruiz, center out of Michigan.
Overcome with emotion, Ruiz going through this draft process without his father who passed away in 2007.
Somewhat of a surprise pick by New Orleans, but a sneaky favorite of offensive line coaches as one of the top interior o-linemen.
The Saints took Ruiz over other potential picks like LSU linebacker Patrick Queen and Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor.
