Coronavirus response continues in the City of Biloxi

The City of Biloxi continues to monitor COVID-19 on the Coast and make preliminary plans to help businesses reopen.

Mayor FoFo Gilich tells News 25 they want to see a 14 day downturn in cases before kick-starting a gradual reopening of certain industries.

In the meantime, the city is planning on being back to full staff within a week as they continue to coordinate a response to reopening.

Mayor Gilich says the city is working with business owners to determine the best ways to move forward and stresses patience as things slowly get back on track. “Again, it won’t be business as usual. It may be 70 percent of the businesses, that would be a great number to get 70 or 75 percent. If we’re able to fire up in say the May/June time frame, and the motels, hotels, tourism components, that’s a big thing. So, we’ve got to plan on it.”

The city hopes to meet with casino leadership in the coming weeks, but as of now there is no set date for casinos to reopen.
