Local business helping animal shelters impacted by Nashville tornadoes
One local business is going above and beyond to help some of the victims of the Nashville tornadoes.
Having grown up on the Coast, Austin Chandler knows that community support in times of disaster can be crucial. “We are all from the Coast so we know how it is when disaster strikes, especially like Katrina. So, we know anything will help.”
Austin is the owner of the Dawg House, which is a doggie daycare facility in Gulfport and Biloxi. He has been collecting donations of animal supplies that he will drive up to Nashville animal shelters next Friday. “So, Nashville, it’s like we really know how they are feeling. So, we know that anything can help. We just wanted from our community to their community, we just want to give them everything that we can just to help them out of their troubles.”
During disasters like the tornadoes that ripped through Nashville last week, animal shelters are hit especially hard. Through the donation drive the Dawg House is collecting pet food, pet bowls, toys, treats, and beds to give to shelters in Tennessee. “When disaster hits, some of these dogs start flooding into their animal shelters and most of these shelters don’t have enough room to keep them or they don’t have enough supplies as well to maintain healthy living for these dogs.”
On Friday the 13th, the Dawg House will be hosting an animal shelter donation drive at Glory Bound in Ocean Springs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. “We will be out there and we ask that anyone come out and give a donation. For every donation you get entered into a drawing for a Tito’s cooler that’s filled with goodies and a gift certificate.”
You can also donate supplies in person at the Dawg House at their Gulfport or Biloxi location anytime from now until March 19th.
