MSU Lady Bulldogs ready for SEC Title defense
After losing to South Carolina in the championship game of the SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament three years in a row, the Mississippi State Bulldogs are finally the reigning champions for the first time in school history.
They start their first ever title defense tomorrow fresh off a double-bye with a quarter-final matchup against LSU.
The ninth ranked Bulldogs enter tournament play as the second seed after posting an impressive 25-5 record during the regular season.
They’ll be looking for their fifth straight championship game appearance over the weekend, but first things first against LSU. MSU Head Coach Vic Schaefer said, “This tournament in and of itself is so difficult. You’re playing so many great teams back to back. Great coaches. Tremendous players. It’s every bit as difficult as the tournament that follows after it. If you can get through the gauntlet of the SEC, you can win anything. And that’s what this next tournament will hold is a three-day gauntlet if you’re fortunate enough to play all three days. But again, if you start looking ahead, you’ll be packing up and coming home Saturday morning.”
MSU and LSU will tip things off from Greenville, South Carolina at 5 p.m. on Friday.
