Pre-K classes in Gulfport School District begin in August
Four elementary schools in the Gulfport School District are getting ready to welcome toddlers to the classroom!
The district is working with MSU’s Head Start Program to allow Gulfport parents and their young kids the opportunity to attend a preschool program close to home.
Right now, the district has two pre-k classes, but beginning in August, they’re expanding classes to 28th Street, West, Central, and Pass Road elementaries.
Pre-K Coordinator Brooke Necaise Glass says the classes are in compliance with the state and will be a great asset to the Gulfport community. “Gulfport is really big on academics and helping our students succeed in the future. So we want to give them an early start. We’re going to actually test them on the MCAS which is the kindergarten test they will take when they get into kindergarten. So we’ll test them on that in pre-k to watch their development and their growth and actually see where they are when they start kindergarten.”
The district is planning a huge kickoff event for registration on March 28th at 10 a.m. at Pass Road Elementary, open to students who turn four-years-old by September 1st.
