Powerball and Mega Millions lottery tickets now on sale throughout Mississippi
GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV) — People throughout Mississippi can try their luck at massive jackpot games like the Powerball and Mega Millions for the first time today.
The tickets went on sale starting at 3 a.m. Thursday at about 1,450 retailers throughout the state.

In 2018, state lawmakers authorized lottery sales to raise money primarily for infrastructure.
Mississippi retailers first began selling scratch-off tickets in November.
Sales through the first eight weeks of scratch-off ticket sales (ending January 18, 2020) have exceeded $80.7 million. Players have claimed more than $44 million in prizes so far.
Last week, the Mississippi Lottery Corporation made its first transfer of $7,621,232.37 in net proceeds to the Lottery Proceeds Fund in the Mississippi State Treasury.
