2020 Legislative Session: Impacting the Coast
Here on the Coast, residents are keeping an eye on bills that could impact our area including infrastructure, reconstructive project funding from the Bonnet Carre Spillway opening, the allocation of millions of dollars from the BP Oil Spill settlement and the possible legalization of the sale of marijuana.
News 25 caught up with Harrison County native Herb Wilson this afternoon and he says the bill that hits him close to home is the increase in teacher pay. “I’m a big fan of the teacher pay raise. My mother was a teacher for 35 years and when my father first came down here he was a teacher. After they both passed away, we actually found my mother’s first contract and showed it to the grandchildren who were teachers and they were flabbergasted at how low it was.”
The legislative session will adjourn March 10th.
