Students pay tribute to first responders

Students at North Woolmarket Elementary paid tribute to first responders as we approach 21 years since 9/11.

A police officer and member of the military read to two classrooms today.

Given the sensitive nature of the events of 9/11, teachers chose books that focused on the Twin Towers before the tragedy.

Emma Brooks, an 8th grader who serves on the student council, says she and others donated snacks and goodies as a way to show their appreciation.

“Patriot’s Day is just a small way to honor and show love to those who sacrificed their life on September 11th, whether it was on their way to work or saving others,” Brooks said. “Being able to feel like we’re there for them and thankful for them and who doesn’t like a snack?”

The school will continue to do this every year around the 9/11 anniversary.
