One dead, two injured in prison brawl in Chickasaw County

A state inmate was killed in a brawl at the Chickasaw County Regional Correctional Facility.

Chickasaw County Sheriff James Meyers says a fight between three inmates started just after midnight on Thursday.

According to our sister station WCBI, the coroner says 26-year-old Gregory Emary of Tate County died at the prison. Reportedly a weapon was involved, but what type of weapon was not disclosed. Two other inmates were injured in the brawl. No prison staff was injured.

Investigators are trying to determine if this incident is related to a deadly fight at the Mississippi State Penitentiary on Tuesday night.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Mississippi Department of Corrections, and Chickasaw County deputies are interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage.
