Gulfport firefighter recovering after fall
One Gulfport firefighter is recovering today after falling off a roof while battling a fire.
This happened last night during a house fire on Windcrest Lane in Gulfport. Gulfport Fire Chief Michael Beyerstedt told us the firefighter fell on his head from the roof of the home, which was about 10 feet high.
Firefighter Jeff Scafide has been working with the department for 16 years. Officials say Scafide was conscious when he was taken to the hospital last night for a CT scan and he was cleared of any injuries. Chief Beyerstedt said, “I think for us we are thankful that it looks like Jeff is going to have a good outcome on this. But that goes back to him and his preparation that he takes care of himself. He works out. He’s just one of those country strong kind of guys. We are just happy this won’t be a tragic Christmas for us.”
This fire started in the chimney of the home and no one else was hurt during the fire.
