Battle of Bay St. Louis Reenactment
History came to life in Bay St. Louis this weekend to commemorate an important event in the area’s history.
Members of the Mystic Krewe of the Seahorse made stops at different points throughout downtown to recognize the 205th anniversary of the Battle of Bay St. Louis during the War of 1812.
The reenactment featured cannon fire, period clothing, and oral histories of the battle and the area’s period of French, Spanish, and British control.
Reenactors also portrayed historical figures such as King George, Jean Lafitte, and Bienville. Albert Ghergich portrayed Captain Longbeard. He said, “I think it’s very important to show the people what all went into this place coming to be. Not only is it the 205th anniversary of the Battle of Bay St. Louis, it is the 320th anniversary of the founding of this area by the French.”
This is the second time the reenactment has been held and the Krewe plans to hold future reenactments every five years.
