Chemours Co. pays EPA fine for air pollution at DeLisle plant

The Chemours Co. paid a fine of nearly $34,000 to the Environmental Protection Agency for air pollution that went beyond limits that were acceptable.

The Sun Herald reported that the company, formerly known as Dupont DeLisle, paid the $33,750 fine last month.

The fine was levied after the company self-reported that material from a routine test in October 2021 exceeded the levels allowed in a permit issued by the EPA.

Once discovered, Chemours shut down the equipment and took corrective action. Subsequent testing showed Chemours was once again within permitted limits before bringing the equipment back online. Routine tests showed that the company has maintained suitable levels.

The EPA said that despite the limits, the public was in no danger from the emissions. Chemours has had no other fines in recent years.

Chemours manufactures titanium dioxide pigment.
