9 year old girl shot

A nine year old girl who was shot in the throat Saturday has been upgraded to stable condition. The child was transported to The University of South Alabama Medical Center earlier today by Life-Flight.
The shooting occurred on Riverbend Road Saturday afternoon and is still being investigated at this time as a tragic accident. Witnesses described hearing a shot and seeing a neighbor carrying the wounded girl down the street. Some of the residents in the small community have medical training and tried to help.
Sheriff Ezell says that may have been the difference between life and death. “There are so many folks yet with CPR, First Aid, and when you have these folks like firemen and paramedics, it’s only a plus for the neighborhood, and I’m sure it had some bearing on this matter.”
Ezell says that while he supports firearms as a constitutional right, parents need to go the extra mile to educate their children on gun safety.
