Over $8.2 million in Tidelands money
More than $8.2 million of Tidelands funds is now in the hands of the Department of Marine Resources after a check presentation from the secretary of state today.
The money goes toward conservation programs and projects aimed at preserving Mississippi’s tidelands and increasing public access areas on the Coast. Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann stood alongside officials to present the Tidelands Trust Fund turn back.
The eight million generated will kick start projects that have been submitted by the counties and cities on the Coast. MDMR Executive Director Jamie Miller said, “Biloxi has an ambitious boardwalk project that they’ve started. We think they’ll be able to continue that in east Biloxi. The park in Hancock County will continue to make improvements. The City of Gulfport in Bert Jones Harbor continues to see improvements so every city and county across the Coast will benefit.”
Including an anticipated nine million dollar turn back in fiscal year 2018, the secretary of state’s office will turn back more than $91 million to the Coast during Secretary Hosemann’s tenure.
