73rd Mississippi Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo at Jones Park

Today kicks off the 73rd annual Mississippi Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo at Jones Park in Gulfport.

Carnival rides, food, games, live music, and a fishing competition makes up the Mississippi Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo.

Not only can guests come and enjoy the carnival, but they can admire and witness award winning and record-breaking fish.

The fishing competition includes both a salt and freshwater division and an adult and junior fishing rodeo.

Sting rays, red fish, flounder, and sharks are some of the sea creatures that will be seen at the 73rd annual Mississippi Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo in Gulfport. New Orleans resident Cynthia Darensburg said, “I saw the rides. So, I said let’s stop over here since its such a beautiful day. We don’t want to be cooped in a hotel, just trying to make it have as many festivities as we can get in.”

12-year-old fisher Mason Watts said, “Today, I caught the youth state record for the biggest red snapper. It was 34 inches long and weighed 19 pounds and one ounce.”

The biggest prize of the event goes to the largest state record breaking bull shark by the close of scales on July 4th. The grand prize is $20,000.
