6/9 – Night Rob’s “Watch Out For Friday Storms” Thursday Night Forecast
After the heat peaked today, we’re done with the rain tonight at least in the short term. Pascagoula (Moss Point-Trent Lott International Airport) led the way again this afternoon with a real-feel temperature of 110 degrees at 2 PM. Heavier showers cooled things down a bit, but only temporarily. Temperatures tonight will barely fall from their early-evening readings.
Tomorrow is a different story, as a more significant severe threat looms. We’re the slight risk (level 2 of 5) for severe storms, with an enhanced risk (level 3) to our northwest from Hattiesburg to Jackson. We haven’t seen these levels since earlier in the spring season. THE primary threat with these will be damaging wind gust, with large hail a secondary danger. Wind gust potential could be significant with these. As of now, the timing on Friday looks to be sometime after 3 PM.
As far as heat, it appears to have peaked today, but it won’t go down by much. Some more spotty storms are possible Saturday before things calm back down to a 20% chance on Sunday.
Since this weekend cold front will not make it through the area. (it’ll stall and dissipate), the heat will come right back Sunday into early next week as if there had been no front at all. It could actually be even hotter by the middle part of next week.
