6/19 Sam’s “Hot and Humid” Thursday Evening Forecast

After a very hot day across South Mississippi we are in for more heat on Friday, which is also the official start to summer.

There is a heat advisory in effect from 11 am to 7 pm on Friday as temperatures soar into the low 90s and the heat index creeps up between 108 to 112 degrees. Make sure to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks from the heat, whether in the shade or the AC and check on elderly neighbors or family members as they are more susceptible to heat related illnesses.

While the rain chance will remain around 40%, we do have higher pressure building in which will lead to lower rain chances come next week. Any rainfall amounts will likely stay between .10″ and .25″ unless in heavier downpours which can amount to near 1″ or more.

In the tropics, the Atlantic basin will stay quiet for the next 7 days as well, while the Pacific basin has seen record tropical activity so far in this 2025 season. Hurricane Erick made landfall as a category 3 hurricane Thursday morning, packing winds of 125 mph, which is the strongest storm to make landfall in June in Mexico. It has since been downgraded to a tropical storm and will eventually become remnants over the next day.
