5K Run for Mercy and Shoe Drive

Joining us in studio are OLA Student Ambassadors Avery and Karoline. They are here to tell us about their upcoming 5K Race and Shoe Drive.

Our Lady Academy (OLA) will host a 5K Run for Mercy and 1 Mile Fun Run on Saturday, September 21st, beginning at 8:00 a.m. in memory of a dynamic and devoted English teacher, Mary Alice Benvenutti and one of the most memorable Crescent icons, Coach Harry Hull. Proceeds from the race will benefit the scholarship in their name. The race time is at 8:00 a.m. and the 1 Mile Fun Run begins immediately following the 5K. The start and finish lines are at the Washington Street Pavilion in Bay St. Louis. There is also a “stay in bed” option for those who would like to support the scholarship from home.

In conjunction with the event, OLA is hosting the annual tennis shoe drive to benefit the Hancock County Resource Center. Drop boxes have been designated around the local community to encourage donations of new or gently used tennis shoes. Men’s, women’s, and children’s tennis shoes of all sizes are welcome. The drive will run until September 21st.

“We are excited to host this special event and charity shoe drive in honor of two phenomenal Crescent role models, Mrs. Benvenutti and Coach Hull. The past 5K Run events’ proceeds have helped many students continue their education at OLA. In addition, the tennis shoe drive will help many adults and children in the community. Last year’s drive was a tremendous success, and we look forward to another successful drive,” said Leigh Chapman, OLA Assistant Principal.

The drop off locations for the tennis shoes are: Bay St. Louis Library, Holy Trinity Catholic School, Kenny Dental, Mike Meyers State Farm, and Our Lady Academy Catholic High School in Bay St. Louis; Kelly Cannon State Farm and Waveland Library in Waveland; Love’s Pharmacy in Diamondhead; Davis Drugs and Stella Maris Gifts in Pass Christian; Elvis Gates State Farm and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School in Long Beach.

Registration may be completed online at OLA’s website: www.ourladyacademy.com/5k.
