5/8 – Brittany’s “Mother’s Day” Evening Forecast
The main talk of the short term will be the heat, we will definitely have plenty of it to go around. Many areas will see the low 90s Monday through Wednesday, with the exception of coastal areas which will be sitting in the mid to upper 80s. On a somewhat bright side, the humidity won`t be horrible, with dewpoints in the mid 60s low 70s in some places. We`ll have a chance to beat some high temperature records, mainly on Tuesday, in some areas. Outside of that the weather will be pretty quiet with ridging aloft and high pressure dominating at the surface.
Wednesday evening and Thursday will continue to be quiet, as high pressure dominates at the surface with ridging aloft. The hot weather also continues, with forecasted high temperatures for the extended period in the low to mid 90s for most areas, the exception being areas right on the coast. These temperatures are within the NBM 75th percentile most days, with some even reaching towards the 90th percentile. We may end up breaking some temperatures records throughout the week, but it will be close.
Heading into Friday and the weekend, we may see our next chance for showers and thunderstorms return to the forecast. An upper level low will be sitting off to our east through the extended period and some model runs have been hinting at this system retrograding back to the west towards our area on Friday. If we do see this, showers and thunderstorm chances will increase. Forecast confidence in this is lower as of now due to inconsistencies in model runs, so we will need to monitor this as more model data becomes available.
