$47.6 million in grants helping veterans re-enter the workforce
Nearly 48 million dollars is the investment the Department of Labor is going to make when it comes to our veterans and getting them back in the work force.
Today, the Department of Labor announced $47.6 million will be awarded to 163 homeless veterans reintegration programs, also known as HVRPs. Two of those organizations are in Mississippi. $206,000 will go to the Jackson, Mississippi nonprofit group, Soldier On, Incorporated, a nonprofit that aims to end homelessness of our veterans.
$239,593 will be awarded to Hancock Resource Center, based in Hancock County, another nonprofit that works to address obstacles to housing.
VFW 4526 Women’s Auxiliary President Tami Soria, who is also a veteran, believes this grant money is right on target and will help provide a much needed service in our area. Soria said, “When these guys and gals come out of the military, they’ve probably been in since they were 18-years-old. They don’t have a clue of what the outside world really is. Any of the extra they can get just means the world to them.”
The funding is expected to provide workforce reintegration services to more than 18,000 homeless veterans.
