41st annual Orchid Show taking place in Gautier

This weekend, the Gulf Coast Orchid Society hosts their annual Orchid Show in Gautier.

The calendar says it is winter, but the warm weather has many people here on the Coast thinking of the spring and beautiful flowers.

Making their debut in the 41st annual Gulf Coast Orchid Show and plant sale, Gracelynn’s clay flowers were a crowd favorite. Ike Tamrak drove ten hours from Missouri to showcase his artificial orchids on the Gulf Coast. “We just want to introduce the product here. So, the people will understand what they are made of. They are not plastic. We do not do any cookie cutter.”

Amongst all the natural orchids, these hand painted art pieces blend right in. Ocean Springs resident Linda Deleebeeck said, “I thought this was a judging show for all the real stuff and then he says they’re not real. I’m going ‘they’re not real?” They’re clay. I thought they were ceramic or something. How in the world? They hand craft everyone. I can even play with them.”

Ike and Gracelynn Tamrak typically don’t go to flower shows, but the art blended in with the theme.

All of the art shows in their hometown were canceled due to COVID, so they traveled from Missouri to the Mississippi Gulf Coast to show off their hand-crafted orchids.

One flower could take up to two to three days to complete. Each one is made by hand and one of a kind.

The Gulf Coast Orchid Show is at the Gautier Convention Center and continues Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Masks are mandatory to enter and entry is free.
