4/6 – Rob Martin’s “Cooler After Some Record Warmth” Wednesday Evening Forecast
Wednesday was an interesting day for temperatures. First, the Gulfport-Biloxi airport only got down to 74 degrees before daybreak, setting a new record-warm reading for overnight low temps (the previous warmest overnight was 72 back in 1999). Then, as skies cleared, it reached 82 for an afternoon high, narrowly surpassing the old record of 81 set in 2012.
Although it remains humid early tonight, drier air aloft is streaming in, and that really limited any thunderstorm potential earlier today. A strong cold front pushes through before midnight with some scattered showers at most. We’ll stay warm and humid until about midnight, then temperatures drop quickly into the mid 50s by daybreak. Northwest winds will increase to 15-20 MPH, prompting a small craft advisory for our coastal waters into Friday morning.
It remains breezy Thursday with highs in the lower 70s, but the real cool-down starts tomorrow night; most areas will drop down to the mid 40s (average this time of year is mid-50s), followed by a cool, but nice Friday with highs around 70 or so. We’ll have abundant sunshine through the weekend with a high UV index despite the cooler temps, so don’t forget the sunscreen if you’re beach-bound.
Late Friday night gets even cooler with coldest spots reaching the upper 30s. The weekend looks splendid with highs warming to the mid to upper 70s on Sunday, but humidity remains in check.
Humidity and temps rise early next week as it gets breezy off the Gulf. Spotty showers and thunderstorms could pop up as early as Monday, with chances increasing next Tuesday and Wednesday.
