3rd Street Sidewalk Project begins in Long Beach

LONG BEACH, Miss. (WXXV) — A project that has been months in the making is beginning in Long Beach

The 3rd Street Sidewalk Project will connect Jeff Davis Avenue to USM Gulf Park by constructing new sidewalks and filling gaps between existing sidewalks.

This project was approved by the Long Beach Board of Aldermen back in April and is funded through the Downtown Revitalization Grant. According to Mayor Tim Pierce, it’s all part of a bigger plan to make downtown more accessible.

“Some of my thoughts are have a master plan for a walkable community,” Pierce said. “And what you want is — in our case, a lot of them will be east-west sidewalks connecting smaller streets into a street that’s used for more pedestrians, so this is the first of many to come. I was glad to see this one get kicked off, and we’re going to do a lot more.”

The 3rd Street Sidewalk Project is expected to wrap up in October.
