Woods Fire under Control

A woods fire in Harrison County is now under control but smoke continues to canvas parts of the area. This is according to Harrison County Fire Chief Pat Sullivan.

The flames started in a wooded area off of Landon Road just east of Canal Road in Gulfport after 4 p.m. this afternoon. Chief Sullivan says multiple old cars and tires caught fire which caused the heavy smoke. The fire was once threatening homes but around 5 p.m. authorities with Gulfport Fire Department said the fire was under control.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
