35th annual YMCA Kelsey Williams 10K takes place Saturday in Ocean Springs

This Saturday, the MS Gulf Coast YMCA will host its 35th annual YMCA Kelsey Williams 10k Winter Classic Run for Epilepsy Awareness.

Each year, the run takes place to help raise awareness for epilepsy and former YMCA member Kelsey Williams, who died from the brain disorder.

The race will start south down Pine Avenue, next to the YMCA, then head east on Beach Boulevard before winding its way back to the YMCA.

The race has something to offer for everyone including a 10K run, 10k race-walker, and one-mile kids run. Health and Wellness Director Jaclyn White said, “Like I said, you don’t have to be a runner to do a race like this. So, you can even walk it. So, we have 10K walkers and we have a one-mile kind of fun run activity that you can do with your kids. You can bring out strollers just get out and be outside. It’s a disease that we really don’t have a cure for. So, we just want to bring remembrance to her and her legacy and like I said, she was a member here.”

Pre-registered runners can pick up their race tickets tomorrow from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, race registration begins at 8 a.m.
