33rd annual Mullet and Music Fest in Gautier
It was a weekend full of good music and fellowship over in Nature’s Playground as the premier festival for the City of Gautier has returned for another year.
Music and food, a combination that continues to inspire unity and fellowship in the community. Mullet Festival Planning Committee Chairman Wesley Ward said, “When you really look at everything that’s going on in the world right now, you know, you really want a lot more unity. People are scared to go places, right? And so, when you get little gatherings like this, it’s what we need to have more of.”
Mayor Casey Vaughan said, “The fellowship today and the unity and all the positivity, it’s energizing. I feel like I’ve been recharged.”
The festival was also a good time to educate out-of-town visitors on what mullet really is. “Well, we’re out here in South Mississippi and a lot of people don’t know, they think they hear mullet, and they think of the hairstyle, but no. The mullet is a fish and we’re out here, we’re frying that fish, like I said the Gautier Men’s Club they fry fish and they have fish plates over there, but we also have the mullet toss.”
How could you not with the plethora of free activities offered to guest. “We have live music, bouncy houses, arts and crafts vendors. Food trucks, a lot of free events for the community.”
Mayor Casey Vaughn says events like this is good for future economic development. “Seeing all the community come together in a positive way helps recruit economic development. We’re blessed for all the citizens who supported us today at the festival and everybody who visited from Ocean Springs, Pascagoula, Moss Point, Kansas, Colorado, Mexico, we’ve had people from all over here.”
