3 Alarm Comics hosts original Red Power Ranger Austin St. John
3 Alarm Comics in Biloxi hosted a special guest over the weekend, Austin St. John, who starred in the original Power Rangers TV series ‘Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers.’
The show became a phenomenon in children’s programming.
He starred as Jason in the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers in the 90s. For many kids in the West, he was the introduction to the sentai-genre of Japanese shows made for kids. It went on like that from 1993 to 1996, when actor Austin St. John disappeared from the screen.
His hiatus lasted 20 years. In the meantime, he worked as a paramedic in Washington D.C., gave health care in the Middle East and had three kids.
He recently stepped back into Hollywood and he’s now filming a movie called “Survival’s End.”
In the meantime, says he’s enjoyed his stay in the area so far. “We’re on the Gulf Coast – the crews are great, everybody’s great. The weather is junk today but we’re expecting quite a turnout.”
St. John left quite a few impressions Saturday, as he casually talked to kids and long-time fans. “So, I’m going to shake hands, we’re going to take pictures, we’re going to sign some autographs, hear some crazy stories, maybe tell some crazy stories and we’re going to see how it all turns out. It’s going to be a good time.”
Both of his careers, as an actor and as a paramedic, suit him well – he connects with those around him effortlessly. Whether as an EMT or on the small screen, it isn’t likely that this is the last we’ll see of him.
