3.9 magnitude earthquake recorded in the Gulf Sunday night

U.S. Geological Survey geologists are studying something you don’t hear about everyday in our region: a 3.9 magnitude earthquake near the center of the Gulf.

It happened around 9:22 Sunday night, about 219 miles off the Coast of Venice, Louisiana and roughly 300 miles from the shores of South Mississippi.

No effects were felt here on the Coast, but it’s still a notable occurrence that doesn’t happen often.
