27,000 wreaths placed at Biloxi National Cemetery

Volunteers came out by the hundreds to honor veterans who are no longer with us for the holiday season.

Despite the thunder, rain, and a little lightning, hundreds of volunteers came together for the annual Laying of the Wreaths Ceremony at Biloxi National Cemetery.

It’s an annual event that happens every year around Christmas time.

It was a great way for guests to pay their respects for those who died serving our country, placing 27,000 wreaths on graves of veterans. Leonard Brantley Jr. with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity said, “It’s a rewarding feeling. As we celebrate the holidays, it’s always better to give than receive and just to recognize the military personnel that made the ultimate sacrifice because we’re living in times where life is too short and even though we celebrate the living, we don’t ever want to forget about the ones who have passed away.”

On January 6th, the wreaths will be removed from each grave and placed in storage for the next holiday season. Volunteers will also be needed that day as well.
