24-year-old charged in Gulfport hit-and-run death
Gulfport Police on Friday arrested a 24-year-old man and charged him in connection with a January, 31, 2022, hit and run that claimed the life of a pedestrian.
Mickel Anthony Stewart is charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. He was taken to the Harrison County jail and is being held on a $250,000 bond.
On January 31, 2022, about 3:11 a.m., officers responded to the area of Highway 49 and 29th Street, in reference to a hit and run involving a pedestrian.
When they arrived, officers found a woman in the middle of the southbound lane of Highway 49. The victim was taken to a local hospital where she died later that day.
The victim has been identified but her name is being withheld pending proper family notification by the Harrison County Coroner’s Office.
